Tiny thinking can prevent you from accomplishing your goals in life and ultimately rob you of the power of your dreams. But there are things you can do that will sabotage those small thoughts, banishing them to the deep dark recesses of your mind so that you can flourish in the sunlight, watering your dreams, and watching them grow. The best news of all, though, is that learning to dream big is surprisingly simple to accomplish.
- Write Down Your Dreams
There’s something about putting things in writing that helps put them in perspective. A journal is a simple tool that is used by almost every great successful person in business. Not only does it provide a creative outlet but it also gives you a roadmap to follow for accomplishing your dreams.
- Create a Vision Board
It’s easy to lose sight of the things that are important to you when they’re not staring you in the face. Vision boards put the things you’re dreaming of, the things you equate with success, right in front of you so they serve as constant reminders of the goals you have in life and continual motivation urging you to achieve the success you desire.
- Try the Rubber Band Rule
The rubber band rule involves you punishing negative thoughts that would otherwise weigh you down and limit your success. You wear a rubber band on your wrist and snap it, really hard, whenever you find yourself thinking self-defeating thoughts or have negative self-talk conversations in your mind. You are the only person who can make great things happen in your life. You are also the only person who can really prevent yourself from achieving great success. The rubber band rule can help by changing the conversations you’re having with yourself.
- Practice Building Others Up
Believe it or not, the more you practice building up others with your words and thoughts, the easier it becomes to say great things about yourself. When you learn to do that, the entire game changes. Practice with coworkers, friends, and family. If you’re not confident saying these things out loud, consider writing them down in your journal, in emails, or even on sticky notes you stick on their desks in the office. The more adept you become at brightening the days of others, the better you will become at brightening your own days as well.
- Surround Yourself with Positive Role Models
The people you surround yourself with are huge influences on the way you do business and the way you treat people around you. When you surround yourself with people who are constantly building others up, who have achieved success of their own, and who offer words of encouragement to people, like you, who are working towards your own goals of success, you will find that success comes much easier.
You don’t have to make huge steps and take giant leaps to achieve success in business and in life. What you must do, though, is talk yourself out of tiny thinking that limits your opportunities and saps your motivation for the success that’s waiting for you.
